House in Ogden, Utah

A railroad city below the Wasatch

Ogden is the seat of Weber County, with 87,321 people at the 2020 census, about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City. It grew as a major railway hub and is known for its historic buildings, especially around Union Station and 25th Street. Older homes and commercial buildings near the center often have galvanized supply pipe and cast iron drains that have been in service for generations. See older-home repiping.

Snow from fall to April

Ogden's first snow usually comes in late October or early November and the last in April, with Pacific storms bringing most of the year's precipitation from fall through spring. Summers are hot and dry, often in the mid-90s. That means months of freeze protection followed by months of heavy outdoor watering. Our snow-season checklist covers the cold half of the year.

Common questions

Do plumbers in Ogden take after-hours emergencies?

Many do, including weekends and holidays. The plumber who contacts you will confirm when they can come and any after-hours rate.

Why do the same pipes freeze every winter?

Usually because they run along an exterior wall or through a drafty space. Rerouting, insulating or sealing drafts near them fixes most repeat freezes.

How do I know if my main line is clogged?

If more than one fixture is slow, or water appears in a floor drain or tub when another fixture drains, the main line is the likely cause.

Is tankless worth it in Ogden?

It can be for households that run out of hot water or want to free up space. Correct sizing for cold winter water is important.

Who owns the sewer line?

Usually the homeowner, from the house to the city main. Ogden City can tell you where its responsibility begins.
