What that means for your plumbing

South Ogden saw its first big wave of residential building after land investments in the 1890s, followed by growth through the 1900s. Burch Creek

Daniel Burch arrived with his family in 1848, and in 1850 the area was named Burch Creek in his honor. Land near creeks can have damp soil around buried lines and higher groundwater in spring. If your basement gets damp in the thaw, have the floor drain and any sump checked.

Canal and gristmill

In 1852 the Weber Canal was built, and Burch built a gristmill near its source in what is now Riverdale. For decades the area was a farming community with several dairy farms, and there was little development until 1890, when extensive investment in residential and commercial land began. A city built up in stages over more than a century has homes with very different plumbing on the same street. If you own an older house, a camera inspection of the sewer line and a look at the supply pipe can show what's original. That's far better to know before a winter backup or a burst pipe forces the question.
