Early farm families

The first settlers were James Graham, his sons George and Robert, and other members of the Graham family, who farmed here as early as 1850. Over the years the community was also known as Jack Thompson's Settlement and Union before taking the name Riverdale. Many other early families, among them the Childs, Fifes and Pattersons, settled nearby. A community that began as farms along a river has grown into a city with homes from many decades. Where older homes have been added to, new plumbing often joins old lines in the basement or crawl space. Those joins are a common place for leaks, so it's worth having a plumber look them over.
